The Lady Lions looked like they were in mid-season form and were able to jump ahead of the Lady Trojans en route to a 83-23 victory. Mattie Lacey finished the game with 20 points on 3-5 shooting from behind the three point arc while Koree Croley finished with career first double double of 17 points and 11 rebounds. Jaycie Bobo finished out the double figure scorers with 10 points on 2-3 three point shooting. All the players who dressed out scored for the second consecutive game.
The girls are really playing hard defensively which in turn has helped to create some easy baskets on offense that has given us a sense of confidence with our offense right now. We must continue to work on improving our defensive rebounding and our responsibilities on defense as well as being able to eliminate some of our youthful turnovers.
The Lady Lions conclude the Collinsville Tip Off Tournament Saturday night as we play host Collinsville at 7:30. This game will be a good test of our overall defensive ability as the Lady Panthers return several key scorers from a team that made it to the 1A Regional Tournament at JSU last season. We have to do a great job blocking out their post players and also finding their main scorer, Christy Cox, who is really good outside shooter.

Season Opener a Success!
Tonight the varsity girls played Skyline in the Collinsville Lady Panther Tipoff Tournament and was able to jump out to a quick 1st quarter lead. The girls were able to score the first 6 points of the game in less than 12 seconds into the game due to their pressing defense. The girls finished the first quarter with 31 points which could be a varsity girls record. Against the Skyline half court zone defense, the Lady Lions came out shooting and were able to hit three 3 pointers and take a commanding lead. There were several areas of strength that I thought was evident tonight which includes perimeter shooting, ability to press and react to opponents turnovers, and ball-handling. With the positive comes the negative, I thought we did a terrible job of boxing out on defense, our posts need to become more physical in the post area and our shot selection needs to improve.
All in all, I would definitely say this was a good sign of things to come this season!! Next the Lady Lions play Gaylesville in the Collinsville Tournament at 4:30.

Monday Nov. 7th Practice Review
Today was our last practice before we take the floor tomorrow night vs Skyline HS at 6:00 in the Collinsville Girls Tipoff Tournament. The majority of our practice today was dedicated to fine tuning our skillls at our positions on offense and defense. We also spent a lot of time scripting our man and zone offenses along with our inbound sets and sideline inbound sets. Practice so far has went pretty smoothly which I hope means that we will be ready to take care of business tomorrow night. Our leadership during practice has seemed better than in the previous years so I am anxious to see us in action and I feel our players are also ready to show off their skills. Macey Simpson was able to participate more in today's practice and took part in all phases of practice with her running capabilities around 50 percent. With her rehab continuing for a few more weeks, we are hoping to have her back in the lineup around the Thanksgiving tournament.
Our entire girls basketball program is currently involved in our Free Throw Pledge Program. Each player collects pledges for shooting 100 free throws on Nov. 14. A portion of our pledge total will go toward the MS Foundation so if you have not made a pledge to one of our players or if you are a player and have not completed your pledges then let's get to WORK!!
Also, Happy birthday goes out to Mattie Lacey who turned 16 today. Go Lady Lions!!!

Week 3 Practice Review
With the 3rd week of practice coming to an end, the Lady Lions are readying themselves to take on Skyline on Tuesday November 8th at 6:00 in the Collinsville Lady Panther Tipoff Tournament. We were able to spend a lot of time this week concentrating on the timing and reads of our offense. Several players shined in practice this week and Macey Simpson is still completing her rehab and will be released for live competition hopefully during the next 10 days.
